Athens man accused of raping juvenile

A Clarke County grand jury this week indicted an Athens man for allegedly raping an underage victim.

The indictment does not state the victim's age, but alterately refers to her as a "child" and "a person under 16 years of age.

Filed Tuesday in Clarke County Superior Court, the indictment charges 19-year-old Bray Street resident Codell Bernard Grant of Rape, statutory rape, child molestation and aggravated sodomy.

The alleged incident occurred on Dec.3, the same day that Grant was arrested by Athens-Clarke County police.

He continued on Friday to be held at the Clarke County Jail without bail.

A date for his arraigment had yet to be scheduled as of Friday.
