Athens man injured nephew with machete

An Athena man was recently arrested for assaulting his nephew with a machete during an altercation in their home on Spring Valley Road.

The incident happened early in the morning of December 12th when 66-year-old Lorenzo Dillard yelled for his nephew to come out of his bedroom and into the living room where he was waiting with a machete,

The men reportedly argued over rent money and the nephew was cut on his leg while trying to disarm Dillard.

When police arrived Dillard denied cutting his relative and was unable to explain how his hands and overalls came to be covered with blood,

A police report noted that the inside of the home was littered with empty beer cans and liquor bottles.

Both men were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries and upon his release Dillard was booked into the county jail on a charge of aggravated assault.

As of Thursday morning he had not posted the $5,000 bail that was had been granted.
