Athens man charged with beating dog to death

Justin Idelle Moore, 44, of South Milledge Avenue, has been charged with beating a dog to death last month.

According to police, there is University of Georgia security camera footage that shows Moore punching and kicking the dog, slamming it to the ground and throwing it down a hill.

He then carried the injured animal to the Sanford Stadium loading dock,

Police had reviewed the footage after a university police officer saw Moore in the loading dock area with three dogs, one of which had blood on its snout, which he explained was from the dog having a seizure and declined veterinary treatment.

The dog’s body was later found in a wooded area off River Road, and a necropsy verified its violent death.

A Magistrate Court judge issued a warrant charging Moore with aggravated animal cruelty and he was arrested by county sheriff’s deputies who located him by his home,

He was later released from jail upon posting a $2,500 bond.
