An Athens man has been arrested for the drive-by shooting of a teen two months ago, Athens-Clarke County police said on Friday.

According to police, the incident happened the morning of Feb. 28 when 18-year-old Jatavion Dunn of Spring Valley Road was shot three times when he was outside in the 300 block of Burkland Lane,

The shooting was reported by a neighbor whose house house was also struck by gunfire, police said, but no one inside was injured.

Dunn was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries by National EMS, police said.

Police said they did not believe that Dunn was shot in an exchange of gunfire, but was more likely to have been shot by someone in a passing vehicle.

Lt. Shaun Barnett on Thursday said that a traffic stop sometime after the shooting uncovered evidence that tied to the shooting a passenger, 21-year-old Tavarez Derrion Carswell of Club Drive.

After further investigation, the officer said, warrants we're obtained that charged Carswell with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

He was taken into custody late Wednesday afternoon, and was being held at the county jail without bong being granted for the aggravated assault charge.
