Man indicted for Athens domestic violence stabbing

A Clarke County grand jury has indicted an Elberton man who stabbed his former longtime partner

In her Magnolia Terrace home two months ago.

In an indictment filed in Superior Court onJune 24th, 47-year-old Jeremiah Fortson was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, simple battery, family violence simple battery, and two counts of third-degree child cruelty.

According to police and court records, Fortson stabbed Courtney Walker was stabbed with a pair of scissors in the back and shoulders.

She reportedly had kicked him out because of prior abusive behavior and he was angry about her ending their 18-year relationship, during which they had two daughters.

The daughters were present at the time their mother was stabbed, which explains the child cruelty charges.

Fortson has remained in custody since his arrest. He had he been scheduled to be arraigned on July 16th.
