By Joe Johnson

Athens-Clarke County police said they were investigating a weekend shooting at a westside nightclub.

Police said they learned of the shooting at Gresham’s Disco Lounge at about 3 a.m. Saturday when they were notified that a gunshot victim was being treated at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

Police said that the victim had been dropped off at the hospital by an unidentified person.

A police incident report indicated that the shooting involved an armed robbery, and police spokeswoman Shashi Charles said that detectives were trying to determine if the incident occurred inside or outside the club, which is located at the corner of East Broad and Paris streets.

The victim was identified in the police report as a 39-year-old Chalfont Lane resident.

Charles said that detectives were not releasing information about the severity of the victim’s injuries “to preserve the integrity of the case.”

Police said the shooting suspect was described as a male in his 50s with gray hair and a beard and was about five feet, eight inches tall.

Charles said detectives were withholding the suspect’s race, also "to preserve the integrity of the case."

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case.

Police asked that anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Paul Johnson at (762) 400-7060.
