Athens man wounded in eastside shooting

Terry Bernard Ball, 38, of Simmons Street, was arrested early in the morning of July17th after he shot a man on The Block, a popular hangout in east Athens.
The victim, 38-year-old Mario Orlando Baker of Ramble Hills Circle, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his buttocks and leg.
The incident reportedly happened at around 12:30 a.m. when Ball shot Baker at the corner of Vine and Gressom streets, according to police.
Although police did not say whether they learned of a motive, they indicated there was evidence that the men had been drinking.
The bullet entered Baker’s right butt cheek and exited his thigh. Police provided first aid before he was transported to the hospital by EMS.
When police located Ball at his home he admitted to having shot the other man.
He was arrested for aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and is being held without bail at the county jail.
