Athens middle schooler shot

A 13- year-old boy reportedly was shot prior to attending school on Monday morning.

The incident happened in the area of Chalfont Drive, and authorities say that injuries to the victim do not "at this time" appear to be life threatening,

Neither the school district nor the police department would say what gender the victim is or identify the school they attend.

"Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident," said Geof Gilland, spokesman for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

When asked some follow-up questions Gilland replied, "The previous statement is all ACCPD is releasing as this is an active and ongoing investigation."

The Clarke County School District released the following statement :

"This morning, a CCSD student was injured in a neighborhood shooting before school hours. This is an active investigation; therefore, we will not release additional information at this time. Counselors are on hand to speak with students who may have witnessed this event. Please keep our students in your thoughts."
