An Athens teen has been arrested for a shooting incident last year at Clarke Gardens apartments in which two victims were wounded.
According to Athens-Clarke County police, the incident happened on April 26, 2022, when a 20-year-old male was shot in the leg by gunfire he said erupted from a group of people that were “standing off” in the parking lot at the complex.
While police investigated, they learned that another victim of the incident had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Police said detectives identified as a shooter in the incident 19-year-old Amir Mangham of Laurel Drive, and warrants charging him with aggravated assault and reckless conduct were subsequently issued.
Then, at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday police said they received a call about Mangham being at Bethel Midtown Village, and after a foot pursuit, officers arrested the suspect.
“Upon a search of Mangham incident to arrest, a stolen Glock handgun, and a quantity of suspected marijuana was located on his person,” police Lt. Shaun Barnett said.
Mangham was additionally charged with theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and making false statements.
He was being detained without bail being set at the Clarke County Jail.
