Athens teens indicted for ‘laser beam’ robbery

By Joe Johnson

Two Athens teens last week were indicted for an armed robbery that utilized a laser beam two months ago at a westside apartment complex.

Adajee Saheed Hubbard, 17, of Hickman Drive and Jamarriun Thomas, 26, of Winterville Road were each charged with armed robbery, according to the indictment filed June 4 in Clarke County Superior Court.

Athens-Clarke County police said the robbery occurred the night of April 29, after a 31-year-old man saw a green laser beam enter his home at Timber Chase Apartments on Sycamore Drive.

When the man went outside to investigate he was confronted by two males he knew from them hanging out at the apartment complex.

When one of the males drew a gun and demanded money, police said he began to run but fell, at which time the males rushed him and stole a wallet containing cash and personal ID, sweatpants, and a pair of Nike athletic shoes with a total value of $390.

The victim pointed out to officers the apartment building into which the suspects ran and where Thomas and Hubbard were located and arrested, according to police.

An arraignment date for the defendants had yet to be scheduled.
