Athens vehicular homicide suspect was on probation for DUI drugs conviction

By Joe Johnson

Terrance Terrell White last year pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of oxycodone and was sentenced to 12 months on probation.

The 46-year-old Pittard Road resident now is again suspected of being intoxicated on drugs when he struck and killed a man on an electric bicycle last Saturday night.

According to police reports, White was driving a BMW sedan west on Olympic Drive when he struck the e-bike operated by 37-year-old Kul Chokhal of Barnett Shoals Road.

Police said that Chokhal had also been traveling westbound when struck from behind near Athena Drive, and projected backwards into the BMW’s windshield before falling onto the pavement.

He was transported in a coma to the hospital where he died on Monday.

White was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI because officers had detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on him and inside his car.

It also had been noted that White’s pupils were constricted pupils and his mouth was frothing as he spoke, both indications of opioid usage,

A blood sample was later taken for analysis at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime laboratory.

Upon Chokhal‘s death, charges against White were upgraded to include first-degree homicide by vehicle.

He is being held without bail at the county jail,
