A 62-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital last week after her head was severely injured in a fall at her home in northwestern Athens-Clarke County.
The incident happened at around 12:40 a.m. June 15th at a Clarkewoods Road residence, where a man called 911 and “stated his wife cracked her skull open,” according to a police report.
When police arrived at the scene they found the woman holding a towel to the side of her head.
“She was able to walk over to me and I applied pressure to her head and waited for EMS to arrive,” an officer wrote in the report.
“There was bleeding, but controlled,” the officer continued. “The side of her head was dented, but she was able to hold a conversation with me.”
It’s not made clear in the report where in the house or how the fall happened, the man explaining that they had been drinking, with his wife having “more than a few glasses of wine.”
The man said that he was about to enter the shower when his wife “came running, screaming, and grabbed his hand and put it on her head.”
A National EMS ambulance crew arrived to care for the woman and transport her to the hospital.
