Deputy kills suicidal man in Oconee County

The following has been released by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office
On the evening of June 25, 2026, at approximately 7:22 p.m., the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted regarding a suicidal subject at an address off Friar Road in Oconee County.
The information received indicated that the subject had harmed himself with a knife, was still armed, and was making statements that he intended to further harm himself.
Deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and encountered the armed subject. During the encounter, the subject pointed a weapon at deputies, and at least one deputy fired their weapon striking the subject.
Deputies immediately began life-saving efforts. The subject was later pronounced deceased at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured.
The investigation has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Any further information regarding the investigation should be directed to the GBI.
