By Joe Johnson

A homeless man was arrested last week at the county bus depot where he was screaming and cursing at people, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Officers responded to the East Broad Street bus station at about 5 p.m. May: 25th on a security guard’s complaint that 58-year-old Dewayne Johnson had been drinking on a bus and was being belligerent and screaming at people,

The guard only wanted to have Johnson barred from the bus depot, but he was arrested because he continued to scream and curse, and also used racially derogatory language to the white and Asian police officers.

Johnson was charged with public intoxication, and it was subsequently learned that he was wanted in Tennessee for a felony probation violation pertaining to an aggravated assault conviction.

Johnson is being held at the county jail, where the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee placed a hold on his release.
