Two men from Elbert County were arrested this week after they tried breaking into a house on Lakeover Drive.
A husband and wife were awakened at about 1:15 a.m. Monday by the sound of someone trying to break down their door.
Police officers arrived to find the men who claimed to be looking to get money owed to a cousin from the sale of a car.
The residents had no idea what the intruders were talking about.
The men were identified as Cory Frederick Maxwell, 35, and Casey Thomas Smith, 34, both from Elberton.
When officers patted them down they found several knives, loose bullets, methamphetamine, brass knuckles, and a pry tool.

The officers found evidence that an attempt had been made to kick in the carport door.
Maxwell and Smith were arrested on charges of criminal attempt to commit a burglary, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of methamphetamine, and loitering/prowling.
They are being held without bail at the county jail.
