Face of Athens man disfigured when attacked with tire iron

A 32-year-old man recently lost part of his nose when assaulted by another man wielding a tire iron.

According to police, the incident happened the evening of December 30th in the Pinewoods Estates neighborhood off U,S. Highway 29 North when a drunken argument between the two men escalated into violence.

The man who was was hit with the fire iron suffered significant injuries to his face and “had a chunk of his nose ripped off,” according to police,

He was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

“I believe that this incident needs further investigation,”’ an officer said in the police report about the incident.
