Woman led police on chase while on drugs and with child in car

By Joe Johnson

Crystal Jean Bloodworth, 38, of Jackson, Mississippi, was arrested last month after a high-speed police chase with a child in her car.

The child was unrestrained while lying on a pile of clothing and Bloodworth was under the influence of drugs at the time, according to arrest warrants on file at Superior Court.

Athens-Clarke County police said they are prevented by law from releasing the incident report because it involves a charge of first-degree cruelty to a child.

However, the following facts are contained in the arrest warrants:

The incident happened early in the morning of March 6th when Bloodworth fled from an attempted traffic stop by the police.

During a high-speed chase, the woman drove recklessly while committing numerous traffic violations that included running stop signs and red lights and she continued fleeing even after her car lost a front tire.

The child who was lying on clothing in the back seat was under five years old.

Evidence of drug use found in the car included a cut straw, hypodermic needle, and a metal smoking pipe.

It’s not explained in the warrants how police determined that she had been under the influence of multiple substances.

Bloodworth was booked into the county jail on a total of 18 felony and misdemeanor charges and she remained there as of today after having been denied bail,
