Released today by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation

WALTON COUNTY, GA (March 5, 2026) The victim in a Wednesday night fatality in Walton County has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab for assistance in identification.

Georgia State Patrol Post 46 Assistant Post Commander Christoph Ayers said the fatality was the result of a single vehicle crash on H D Atha Road in Walton County on March 4, 2026.

Ayers said GSP TFC2 Smith was dispatched to the scene last night and his initial crash investigation revealed the following:

“A 2025 Mini Cooper was traveling south on HD Atha Road. The vehicle went into the oncoming lane of travel before overcorrecting, losing control, and traveling off the right shoulder of the roadway.  The vehicle struck two curbs and overturned.  It then struck a stop sign, light pole and tree with its driver side side/roof,” Ayers reported. “The vehicle came to an uncontrolled rest upside down facing west.”

Ayers went on to report that due to an extreme disfiguring head injury the driver is not able to be identified at this time.

“Walton county coroner’s office is sending the driver to the GBI Crime Lab for identification,” Ayers said.

Further information will be available once positive identification of the victim has been made.
