Homeless man charged with stealing from people’s mailboxes

A homeless man who was recently arrested after he was seen going through mailboxes in an east Athens neighborhood has been tied to mail thefts on both sides of town.
La-Kwaann Reevey, 33, was arrested the morning of May 25th at the corner of First and Third streets
after police received reports that he was going through mailbox's in the neighborhood.
He had in his possession a passport that had been stolen from a woman’s mailbox on Franklin Street and debit cards belonging to a woman living on Rocksprings Street. He also had gift cards and an altered personal check from the bank account of someone else.
While not admitting to having stolen any of those items, Reevey admitted to police that he was addicted to methamphetamine and does whatever he can to get money to support his habit.
He was charged with theft by possession of stolen mail, loitering/prowling, fourth-degree forgery, and using another’s identity without permission.
A judge set his bail at $2,000, while had not heard posted as of Monday.
