An Athens man was arrested Monday afternoon after he allegedly spit at his mother and stole his brother’s cellphone according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.

Police responded at 2:20 p.m. to a residence on a report of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival a woman told officer that her 20-year-old son, Tretoni Tyrone Bonds, spit at her and his 18-year-old brother and stole the brother’s $600 iPhone 6S before running out the door.

The woman reportedly told police she believed her son might be on drugs due to paraphernalia he left at the scene.

Soon after officers left the woman called again to report that Bonds had returned and was banging on windows. The officers found Bonds during a search of the neighborhood and arrested him for family violence simple battery and theft by taking, according to the police report.

He was being held Wednesday without bail being set due to an outstanding felony probation violation warrant. The warrant stemmed from a 2018 conviction on aggravated assault and aggravated battery charges, according to Clarke County Superior Court records.
