An Athens man has been arrested in connection with a weekend nightclub shooting in South Carolina that left two people dead and eight others wounded.
According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred early Sunday morning at the Lavish Lounge in Greenville.
Greenville authorities called the shooting gang-related and they identified one of the shooting suspects as 22-year-old Jarquez Kezavion Cooper of Athens.
Cooper was arrested Monday by members of the Greensville Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Athens-Clarke County and Gwinnett County police departments, U.S. Secret Service and the FBI.
Cooper was charged with two counts of murder, seven counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the Greenville Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the shooting occurred at the nightclub where about 200 people gathered to see Foogiano, an Atlanta-based trap rap artist from Atlanta whose real name is Kwame Brown.
Three other men in the Atlanta area with ties to Brown were being sought for questioning.
