An Athens man reportedly was beat up and robbed Monday night by a group of burglars who entered his home while he was away.
According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, the 50-year-old victim said when he returned to his apartment on Nellie B Avenue at about 7:30 p.m., there were five people inside the residence.
The intruders chased the victim and beat him up on the corner of Nellie B Avenue and Cone Drive, according to the report.
“He stated that a man he knows as Bryson Carson had a gun during the incident,” according to the report. “(The victim) stated he was beaten by the group and felt threatened by the firearm, but it was never directly pointed at him.”
The man reported that two cellphones and a Roku TV with a total value of about $400 had been stolen, the police report noted.
The victim reportedly described Carson as a black male who was about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 130 pounds, and wearing a red shirt and blue jeans. The gun was said to be a small, possibly .22-daliber pistol that was black on top and pink on the bottom.
