Authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found Friday afternoon in a field off of Commerce Road.
According to Capt. Christopher Nichols, commanding officer of the Athens-Clarke County police Criminal Investigations Division, utility workers found the adult female’s body on a power line right-of-way.
“There does not appear to be any foul play,” he said. “However, the body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.”
He said that investigators have tentatively identified the woman, but they were awaiting confirmation and notification of next of kin before releasing her name.
