By Joe Johnson

A man was pistol-whipped during an attempted armed robbery last week outside an eastside convenience store, Athens-Clarke County police said.

The 64-year-old victim, who lives on Wild Azalea Lane in Bogart and works at the Airport Minit Market on Winterville Road, was outside the store at about 9:45 p.m. Thursday when he was approached by a gunman who went through the victim’s pockets and then struck the victim’s head with the weapon before fleeing the area.

The police report of the incident did not include a description of the suspect or mention whether a vehicle was involved.
