One week later, police trying to identify Athens man's killer

By Joe Johnson

One week after a man was fatally shot at an Athens apartment complex, police continued to identify the killer.

Quamiek Malik Aziz, 27, was killed and another man was wounded by gunfire the night of Dec. 29 at Rolling Ridge Apartments off Kathwood Drive.

“There is no new information to provide,” said Athens-Clarke County police Public Information Officer Lt. Shaun Barnett. “Investigators continue to work toward identifying a suspect and motive.”

After Aziz was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased, police learned that another person, 22-year-old Deundre Trymane Moses showed up at the hospital with a non-life-threatening bullet wound that police said was related to Aziz being killed.

Barnett said that Moses was currently being viewed by investigators as a victim.

“Moses' involvement, if any, is also still under investigation,” Barnett said Tuesday afternoon.

Aziz was shot at about 8:39 p.m. Dec. 29, police said. Officers were in the area for an unrelated matter when they heard two gunshots, and during a search they located Aziz lying on the floor of a building’s breezeway and suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.

Police announced that a Crime Stoppers cash reward was being offered for information leading concerning the Rolling Ridge shootings.
