The Athens teen who was fatally shot Thursday has been identified by Athens-Clarke County police as 15-year-old Keshawn Gainer.

The former Cedar Shoals High School student was fatally shot at about 9:30 a.m. between the 100 and 200 blocks of Westchester Circle, the same street on which he resided, according to police.

Police on Friday continued attempts to identify the killer, and were being assisted in the investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Clarke County Coroner’s Office and the Western Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Police have not released any possible motives for the slaying.

"No further information is being released at this time,” said Capt. Christopher Nichols, commanding officer of the Athens-Clarke County police Criminal Investigations Division.

A Crime Stoppers reward is being offered for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the person or persons responsible for Gainer’s death.

Anyone with information about this case is asked by police to contact Lt. David Norris at (762) 400-7165.
