Police investigate fatal shooting at Bethel Midtown Village

Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a fatal shooting at the Bethel Midtown Village apartment complex that occurred at about 1:50 p.m. Monday, according to a police spokesperson.

Police Public Information Officer Victoria Hunter said she did not know details of the shooting because the investigation was in its early stages.

Release of the victim's identity was pending notification of their next of kin, Hunter said.

The identity of the shooter was unknown, she said.

When asked the age and gender of the victim, as well as the exact location of the shooting, police acting Public Information Assistant Kenneth Brooks said, "I don't have any further details at this time."

In a media release police said the suspect was described as a black male wearing a white shirt and blue pants.

There is a Crime Stoppers reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect.

Police asked that anyone with information concerning the shooting should contact Lt. David Norris at (706) 613-3330, ext. 7165.
