A second Athens man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery last month in which the victim thought he was meeting someone who was selling AirPods.
According to Athens-Clarke County police, the incident was reported on June 2 by a 16-year-old Wedgewood Court resident, who said he arranged to meet on nearby Cleveland Road with someone he met on Snapchat, who went by the username of jayballer2k, according to a police report.
The victim said that when the vehicle he was expecting arrived, he got into a second-row passenger seat, according to the report, which described the vehicle as a white Acura SUV, occupied by a black driver, a white front seat passenger and a black male passenger in the rear.
The victim said that after he entered the SUV and the occupants knew he had the money for the wireless earbuds, the male in the rear grabbed him in a chokehold from behind and went through his pockets in an attempt to get the money, according to the police report.
The victim said he refused to surrender his money and tried to escape from the vehicle, at which time he heard one of the suspects say, “Get the gun, get the gun.” and another suspect began punching him in the face, according to the report.
The suspects let the victim go after he gave them $250, the report noted.
A responding officer noted in the report that the victim had several marks on his neck and face, as well as a severe laceration on an eyelid. The victim’s father took him to the hospital for treatment, according to the report.
After an investigation, police obtained arrest warrants for one of the suspects, 20-year-old Quintavis Jaymon Tillman of Paris Street, charging him with armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and battery. He was taken into custody July 9.
A second suspect, Traebian Daniel Trushaw, 19, of Evergreen Terrace in Winterville, was arrested on the same charges early Thursday morning.
As of Saturday afternoon, both suspects were being held at the county jail without bail being set.
