Three generations of family members perished in Athens fire.

By Joe Johnson

A young girl, her mother and her grandmother all perished in a fire at their home in an east Athens trailer park on Wednesday.

Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson on Thursday identified the victims as Mariah Fields, 9, her mother Penyada Fields, 35 and her grandmother, Penny Fields, 52.

He said Penyada’s 12-year-old son Taeden Johnson was the young boy who ran to a neighbor’s trailer at Hallmark Estates to get help prior to the neighbor calling 911 at about 3:27 a.m.

A fire official said the boy was treated at the hospital for burns to the shoulder and smoke inhalation.

According to the coroner, another of Penyada Fields’ children, a 15-year-old girl, spent the night of the fire at a relative’s home.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation by the Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services Department.

A department spokesman on Wednesday said it did not appear that foul play had been involved.

A GoFundMe account has been established for Taeden Johnson by his mentor, Zac Hendrix.
