Athorities were investigating the death of a Walton County man who was fatally stabbed early Monday morning during a fight in Morgan County, according to the Georgia Bureau of Ivestigation.
In a Monday evening news release, the GBI said that in the early morning hours of Monday, Morgan County 911 received a call stating that several individuals had been in an altercation resulting in at least one person stabbed.
Deputies immediately responded to the location of the altercation, in the area of Sandy Creek Road in the city of Madison, but all involved parties were no longer present.
A couple hours later, Walton County 911 received a call of an unresponsive male located off a roadway outside of Monroe in Walton County, where deputies found the body of 58-year-old Jerald Jerome Bowden of Walton County, deceased from what appeared to be stab wounds.
GBI Region 11 field office agents responded to assist, and through numerous investigative acts, it was determined that Bowden was one of the individuals involved in the altercation in Madison, the GBI said.
Subsequently, Walton County brothers Tommy Joe Byrd, 55, and Tommy Roger Byrd, 56, were arrested by GBI agents and charged with tampering with evidence, with additional chjsarges pending, the GBI said.
The brothers were being held at the Walton County Jail, and Bowden’s body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur, where an autopsy will be performed on Wednesday.
