A 10-year-old girl reportedly was killed in a

Jackson County house fire Saturday night.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly after 11:30 p.m. to a house on Skelton Road in Hoschton, where a caller reported that her daughter was trapped inside a bedroom of their burning residence.

When deputies arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames, the sheriff’s office said, and they were unable to enter the bedroom due to the smoke and flames.

When firefighters arrived at the scene they were able to enter the room and found the girl, who was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, the sheriff's office said, and her mother was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for medical treatment.

The Georgia State Fire Marshall’s Office, Jackson County coroner and sheriff’s office were investigating to determine what caused the fatal blaze.
