A homeless man has been charged with murder for the shooting death of a Madison County man whose body was found early Monday morning in the road outside of his home in Colbert, according to Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Deshun Kevon Turner, 24, was charged in connection with the slaying of 53-year-old Fredrick Appling of Farm Road.

Appling’s body reportedly was found in the early morning hours on Monday by his nephew, who was driving down the road and had to swerve to avoid the dead man’s body.

Turner, whose last known address was in Oglethorpe County was taken into custody Monday afternoon and subsequently charged with felony murder.

“At this time investigators are still working to determine the motive and other aspects related to the crime,” according to Madison County sheriff’s Capt. Jimmy Patton, who Tuesday morning said the investigation “is still very active at this time.”
