Man indicted for Athens home invasion in which he shot woman with shotgun

By Joe Johnson

Stewart Tredarious Johnson, 28, was indicted this week for a home invasion in which 54-year-old Meshel Thomas was shot in the leg with a sawed-off shotgun.

The incident occurred on June 23, 2023 at the victim’s apartment on Coleridge Court in the Athens Gardens complex.

Johnson was arrested that same day and jailed under an address in Oglethorpe County.

Records indicate that he used to live in Athens Gardens, where in 2019 he had been involved in a family violence incident.

Judge H. Patrick Haggard granted bail during a hearing in Clarke County Superior Court two months after Johnson was arrested, and he was released from jail that day upon posting a$10,000 bond.

A grand jury on Thursday returned an indictment that charges Johnson with first-degree home invasion, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Johnson is scheduled to return to court for an arraignment on December 3.
