A 53-year-old woman was shot the evening of June 14th by her boyfriend during a domestic dispute in their home on Vincent Drive.

The incident was reported by the victim’s 6-year-old daughter who witnessed the shooting and called 911.

When officers arrived at the scene they found Mirna Umana clutching her bleeding hand and saying, “He shot me, he shot me,” while pointing at her boyfriend,Jose Linares.

“I noticed he seemed disoriented, and he also had slurred speech when attempting to communicate with me,” an officer stated in a report. “There was black smoke residue on his hands.”

A man who rents a room at the residence told police he heard the couple arguing when the victim began screaming and calling his name.

When the man went to see what was happening, he said that Linares and the victim looked as though they were holding each other, with Umana bleeding from her hand and a gun on the floor nearby.

He told police that he picked up the gun and cleared the round from its chamber. The weapon’s ammo magazine was missing, but police later found it in under some blankets in the bedroom.

Umana was transported by ambulance to the hospital,

Linares, 53, was arrested for aggravated assault, terroristic threats ard acts, and third-degree cruelty to children, for shooting the victim in the presence of her young daughter. The charges were made under the Georgia Family Violence Act.

Linares is being held without bail in pretrial detention.
