Murder charge in child’s shooting death

Released this afternoon by the Gwinnett County Police Department

Norcross, Ga., Jan. 16, 2026) – The Gwinnett County Police Department Homicide Unit has arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the death of a child.

On January 8, 2026, officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of Green Hill Drive regarding an incident involving two juveniles. One of the juveniles was shot and died as a result of the injuries.

It was discovered the juveniles located a firearm and contacted their older brother, Almauri Drummond (21,Forest Park) to notify him. The juveniles later sent Drummond a video showing them firing the weapon in their backyard. Drummond only instructed the juveniles to hide the firearm from their father. At no point did Drummond attempt to notify an adult or take steps to secure the firearm and remove it from the juveniles’ access.

As a result, Drummond was arrested and charged with Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, and Reckless Conduct.

Firearm ownership is a serious responsibility. When firearms are not handled or stored in a way that prevents access by children, the consequences can be tragic, and individuals may face criminal charges depending on the circumstances.
