New faces (and snouts) at the Athens-Clarke County animal shelter

Meet some of the new arrivals at the Athens-Clarke County Animal Services Department shelter at 125 Buddy Christian Way. They are ready for adoption and just waiting for you to take them home!

Shadow

Shadow is a super sweet beauty. She enjoys chasing toys, but she's also just as happy sitting calmly with her human snacking on treats and being loved on. Her former owner says she lived as an indoor dog and is house trained, crate trained, and good with kids of all ages. She's wonderful!

Bo

Bo is a big, strong fellow, and I had to hold on tight as he walked me (yes, he led the way!) to the interaction pen, but he LOVES to play, and we had a lot of fun. Bo plays fetch, sits for treats, and always has a smile. Fortunately, the walk back to his kennel was easier because he wore himself out running, playing, and having fun.

Luna

When I first met Luna, she wasn't ready to leave her kennel. I made sure that she saw me walking other dogs, and it worked because she decided she'd like to have fun in an interaction pen, too. Luna is A LOT of FUN! She loves playing fetch and also knows how to sit and shake. I later learned that Luna came in with Bo. Both are sweet, fun dogs.

Luthor

Luthor is a playful, friendly fellow. He liked chasing toys, and then when I'd sit down, he'd put his head on my lap. Luthor loves sitting for treats, but it's best to either toss them or use an open hand because he hasn't learned how to take them gently yet. He's a little unsure of all the barking around him, but give him time to trust, and you've got a sweet buddy.

Persia

Persia was happy to leave her kennel and was ready to stretch her legs and run. She liked chasing toys, enjoyed pets from me, and was friendly to her canine neighbor in the adjoining pen. She stepped into the kiddie pool, but unfortunately there was no water in it because I hadn't had time to refill it. Still, Persia enjoyed her time outside and is a good-natured, friendly girl.

Petunia

Honestly, it hurts my heart to think about all that Petunia has endured in her life. Her ears have been cropped close to her head (and not professionally), and she has scars and old wounds on her body. Still, she was sweet with me and actually a little timid. Whenever I passed her kennel, she'd come to her gate, lower her head, and look up at me like she was hoping I'd take her out. When she did finally get a turn, she was happy and smiling. She enjoyed exploring but also liked pets and attention. I hope Petunia finds a home where she can finally know what it's like to be cared for and loved.

Kenan & Kel

Kenan and Kel are sweet, adorable pups. They both have big smiles and little nubby tails. They love treats and patiently sit for them. I'd throw toys for the boys, and they'd chase them but then turn around and come right back to me for more treats and pets. They're so cute!

Roger & King

Roger is a handsome dog, but I had a hard time taking his pictures. He's a little camera shy, and he also likes being close to his human. He'd rather put his head on my lap and enjoy pets and scratches than pose for a picture. He seems to like other dogs, and he and King trotted along the fence together. They're both good boys.

Shiloh

Shiloh is a sweet, beautiful dog who wants to go home. She was happy to leave her kennel and walk with me, but I think she thought I'd be taking her home not to an interaction pen. She spent much of her time looking out the gate though she would let me pet her. When I told her it was time to go, she lit up, but sadly, she was returning to her kennel. I hope Shiloh is reclaimed. I bet she's a devoted companion.

Molly

Molly was the last dog I took out and was such a sweet surprise. After spending time with eleven other dogs, I was worn out, but Molly made no demands--she just wanted to please and be loved on. The first thing she did when I sat down was gently get on my lap. When I offered her treats, she'd immediately sit. She was happy to be with a friend, and I enjoyed being with her. I was told that Molly can scale a fence, but while we were together, she never tried. She probably needs to be an indoor dog which I imagine is what Molly would prefer--she wants to be with her loved ones.
