One person killed, another injured in Athens collision

First responders at the scene of a fatal collision on Lexington Road

A woman reportedly was killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle collision on a busy Athens roadway during the morning commute.

A van and passenger car collided just before 7:30 a.m. on Lexington Road at Springtree Road, according to Athens-Clarke County police.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital, where the woman died and the other driver was being treated for injuries, said Lt. Shaun Barnett, ACCPD's public information officer.

The officer said he could not provide names of the victims or details of the incident because the initial accident report had yet to be filed.
