At 9:21 a.m. Tuesday Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a motor vehicle accident in front of Carter Electric Motor Services at 1201 Commerce Road in a report of an overturned logging truck.
Battalion Chief Nate Miss said that emergency personnel arrived to find that the truck's driver had gotten out of the vehicle on his own power.
"The truck was traveling on the outer loop from the direction of Old Hull Road and was attempting to exit onto Commerce Road away from town," Miss says. " The truck likely attempted to negotiate the turn at too high of a rate of speed. The truck overturned in front of 1201 Commerce Road and the debris blocked the majority of the roadway heading into town and logs also rolled into the parking lot and the business at this address.
Miss said fire crews assisted in blocking traffic, attending to the medical needs of the driver, and cleaning up fuel that spilled from the vehicle.
