A pedestrian reportedly was struck and killed by a dump truck Wednesday morning on Tallassee Road.
"Our Traffic Unit is on the scene," Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Geof Gilland said.
"The investigation is still active and ongoing," he said. "When we have some information to share, I’ll be in touch."
County Coroner Sonny Wilson said that the victim was struck on a newly-paved road for apartments being constructed across from the Westchester Drive intersection.
The incident involved the 11th traffic fatality this year in the county, and the fourth to have occurred on Tallassee Road.
