Pool player accused of cheating KO’d in eastside bar

An off duty sheriff’s deputy was knocked unconscious the night of July 7th at an eastside bar by a man who accused him of cheating at pool.
Witnesses told police that the men were arguing at a pool table and as the victim turned to walk away the suspect dropped him with a sucker punch to the side of his head.
The witnesses said the victim, identified by police as a corporal in the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, was unconscious for several minutes and was revived by other bar patrons.
The bartender knows the suspect as a customer named Byron who shoots pool a couple times a week.
The police incident report describes the victim as being dazed, confused and intoxicated., and claiming that his uncle owned the bar.
The bar isn’t identified in the police incident report. Its address is listed as 50 Gaines School Road, where there are two bars that have pool tables.
