An Athens woman has been sentenced to prison for intentionally crashing her car into the Alps Road Kroger last year.
Several people were injured when the car plowed into a checkout area, including an employee whose skull fractured.
Authorities said that 40-year-old Lonneshia Shafaye Appling was high on a combination of fentanyl and methamphetamine on the morning of December 16th, 2025.
According to police reports, Appling had sat in her car outside of the supermarket for several minutes before she suddenly accelerated and crashed the vehicle through the entrance doors and into the checkout area,
A known serial shoplifter with an extensive criminal history Appling was heard after the crash repeatedly saying, “He ruined my life.”
Three months later, a grand jury charged her in a 12-count indictment that included multiple aggravated assault charges.
Appling subsequently entered into a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office in which she pleaded guilty to two counts of serious injury by vehicle, criminal damage, reckless conduct, and driving while intoxicated.
She was recently sentenced to 12 years in prison and eight years of probation,
