Redeveloped College Square ribbon cutting announced

From Visit Athens:
On Saturday, Oct. 24, Athens will officially unveil the newly redesigned College Square, marking the completion of a major transformation of one of downtown’s most prominent gathering spaces.
Located along College Avenue between East Broad and East Clayton streets, just steps from the University of Georgia, the redesigned College Square prioritizes the pedestrian experience and strengthens connections between downtown destinations and campus. Developed with community input, the new space features improved ADA accessibility and circulation, new paving and seating, enhanced lighting, overhead shade sails, large trees and new plantings, along with infrastructure designed to support future community events.
We’d love to invite you to join us for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. on Oct. 24. Speakers currently include:
Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz
Ed Lane, SPG Planners and Engineers
Christy Kovac, Sheridan Construction
David Bradley, Athens Downtown Development Authority Board Member and Athens Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO
The ribbon cutting will kick off a full day celebrating the new College Square. SquareFestwill follow from 1-4 p.m. with local community partners and family-friendly activities, followed by a free outdoor concert featuring BTBTE: A ’90s Tribute Band at 7 p.m.
