Standoff with armed man in Winder ends peacefully

Barrow County, Georgia, May 24, 2026, at 0:01 a.m.
Law Enforcement Response to Barricaded Suspect
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office is currently assisting the Winder Police Department with an
active barricaded suspect incident in the area of Box Circle in Winder.
At approximately 9:12 p.m., law enforcement officers were dispatched to the area following
reports that led to an ongoing law enforcement response. Deputies from the Barrow County
Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Winder Police Department, responded to the scene
and established a secure perimeter.
The situation remains active and is being handled by law enforcement personnel. Out of an
abundance of caution, residents are encouraged to avoid the area and follow any directions
provided by responding officers.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available and when doing so will not
compromise the ongoing operation.
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and Winder Police Department appreciate the public’s
patience and cooperation as this incident is safely resolved.
Updated release
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office is providing an update regarding the barricaded suspect
incident that occurred in the area of Box Circle.
Following an extended law enforcement response, the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office SWAT
Team arrived on scene and assisted with the operation. The suspect, identified as Alexander
Agapi, surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident.
No deputies or officers were injured during the response.
Agapi was arrested on charges of Aggravated Assault and Terroristic Threats. Additional charges
are anticipated as the investigation remains ongoing.
Following his arrest, Agapi was transported to the Barrow County Detention Center for
processing.
