An Athens man has been arrested for allegedly shooting another man in the neck nine months ago.
Sanchez Aaron Smith, 39, of Pepperidge Lane was arrested Sunday on a warrant charging him with aggravated assault for the Feb. 14 shooting at the Rocksprings Homes apartment complex that injured 38-year-old Rashad Allen.
According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, officers responded to Rocksprings Homes on a report of gunshots being heard on Rocksprings Court.
An officer was searching the area when he was flagged down by Catalpa Drive resident Allen who said that he’d been shot, according to the report, which noted when Allen exited his car the officer saw that his shirt had blood on it.
While the officer called for EMS to be dispatched to the location, other officers provided first aid to a gunshot wound to Allen’s neck, according to the report.
The report notes that Allen said that he had gotten into an argument earlier in the day with Smith, and that he was sitting in his car when Smith returned and “just started shooting” and then ran away.
Allen was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In addition to the aggravated assault warrant, Smith was served with additional warrants from an unrelated incident that charged him with battery and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children.
As of Wednesday, he was being detained at the county jail without bail being set.

From what I read on the Georgia Department of Corrections Offender Search, seems Rashad is NO saint!! Gee…I wonder what the shooting was really about? Probably frustration over Covid lockdown!
