Teen dies in apparent Madison County accidental drowning

A teenager died last weekend in an apparent drowning accident In Madison County.
David Julian Acosta was swimming with friends Sunday afternoon off a dock in a pond near Floyd Road in Danielsville when he disappearedo under the water and failed to come up.
Witnesses called for help at about 5:45 p.m. but by the time sheriff’s deputies arrived the 16-year-old Madison County High School student had already been underwater for 15 minutes.
An underwater search was conducted by dive teams from Madison and Elbert counties and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the Acosta’s body was recovered at about 6:20 p.m.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that there was no evidence of foul play or alcohol use and “all indications thus far indicate that victim died of an accidental drowning.”
An autopsy was to be conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
