Clash of two UGA doctoral students results in one arrest

A University of Georgia doctoral student was recently arrested after fighting with a housemate who also is a PhD candidate at UGA.

Kimberly Casares, 23, was charged with simple battery after the May 18th incident in which she allegedly struck the other woman with an air fryer tray and pulled her hair.

The victim reportedly told police the fight happened when she confronted Casares over locking her out the previous night as she escorted a drunken friend to an Uber outside.

She also said that she saw through a window Casares laughing after locking the door.

She alleged that what began as an argument escalated to a physical altercation in which Casares swung the air fryer tray at her, struck out with her hands and pulled her hair.

A police officer who responded to the incident reported finding what appeared to be the victim’s hair stuck to the tray and seeing more hair on the kitchen floor.

A third doctoral student who lives there but was not home during the incident, but she told police that things had been tense and that Casares had become “increasingly confrontational,” with the victim trying to be a “peacemaker.”
