UGA student charged for pool cue assault in Athens bar

A University of Georgia student has been indicted for strangling and attacking a victim with a cue stick in Boar’s Head Lounge on East Washington Street.

He was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery, according to the indictment filed Tuesday in Superior Court.

Police arrest warrants indicate that the incident happened on April 11th when 19-year-old Benjamin Aaron Franzen grabbed the victim in a chokehold and held it until he went limp

He also struck the victim in the head with a pool cue, causing him to suffer a concussion and lose consciousness. A deep laceration needed six stitches to repair.

Franzen is free on a $4,500 bond while awaiting his arraignment on October 6th.
