Van crashes into tower of concrete blocks in Lowe’s parking lot

A 45-year-old Winterville man was arrested Monday afternoon after he knocked down a display of concrete blocks and struck a parked car with his van.

Police said that Nicholas Gaines had been under the influence of “multiple” prescription drugs.

The incident happened in the parking lot of Lowe’s on Lexington Road when Gsines drove the van into a tower of 50 concrete blocks, ran over a bag of gravel, then crashed into a parked 2017 Honda Accord registered to a Cooper Springs Court resident.

Gaines was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and released Tuesday night after he posted $3,500 bail.
