Wrong way driving leads to drug arrest

By Joe Johnson

A man was recently arrested after his SUV was stopped by police for trying to use an exit ramp to enter the Athens Perimeter.

The vehicle was searched after drug paraphernalia was seen in plain view and police said they found meth, crack cocaine, and an open bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey.

They also learned that that 41-year-old Garris Trippe Jones III of Eatonton was in violation of bond conditions from a domestic violence arrest involving his passenger, a 44-year-old Athens woman who was asleep when the SUV had been stopped.

Jones was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, driving on the wrong side of the road, and violation of a family violence order.

He was later released upon posting $1,000 in bonds that came with the renewed condition that he have no contact with the woman.
