Man indicted for endangering children’s lives by shooting into their home

Grand jurors have indicted a man who endangered the lives of children when he fired gunshots into their home off of West Broad Street.

Zapond Byrd, 21, of Parkview Extension, was charged with six counts of aggravated assault, three counts of first-degree cruel to children, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm on or near a public street, and felony fleeing from police, according the the indictment filed June 3rd in Superior Court.

The charges are for when on April 21st Byrd went to the home of a woman on Broadacres Court after she had rended a relationship with him and shot into her apartment when she, her young children, and others were there.

He was arrested by police after a car chase.

Byrd is being held without bail in pretrial detention and he is scheduled to be arraigned on July 7th.
